KARAI Karai soared gleefully, tumbling through the air as he somersaulted and loop-the-looped with ease. He had never felt so wonderfully free and happy. He looked around as he flew, watching the ground rush under him. He saw rivers and valleys, glades and mountains, beaches, and swamps. He felt like he could see all the way past infinity.
Finally, he swooped lower, circling over a rainforest. He had never seen so much lush green foliage during his short life in the bush. He carefully circled lower and lower, gently folding his massive wings to accommodate the tight spaces between the trees. He set down in a clearing near a brook, and shook himself to smooth his coat and feathers.
Karai trotted over to the brook for a drink, starting at his own reflection. His wings were similar in color to his mane, but much brighter somehow, as though they were laced with silver. They reminded him of the wings of the golden eagle of his homeland, but much larger (proportional to his size) and much more powerful.
He lowered his head for a drink. The water tasted fresh and sweet, with a bit of a mossy taste. He drank greedily before raising his head again and looking around the rest of the clearing. There were many plants he had never seen before, some small and low to the ground, others huge, reaching up to the sky. Karai sniffed around some of the smaller plants and found a grassy type plant and began to graze. He wondered what new adventures he would have in this place... Wherever he was...

Coraline
My Words.
|
My thoughts. My voices. The beast could feel her eyes roll back into her head. The sweet scent of crimson that flooded from her latest kill gracing her pristine white nostrils. Oh how the blood sings into our minds. Such a beautiful song it chants. Coraline paid no head to the voices. Her mind was too preoccupied with the small deer that laid under her now bloody hooves. It could not put up much of a fight. The mare was a brute when it came to her hunting ways. Luring the creature in, causing it to believe that she was one of the friendly equines that lived in these lands. Once the creature was close enough Coraline sent a swift kick out to one of its legs, a satisfying snap coming from the bone. But Coraline did not attack right on the spot. What good was a meal if there was no chase? And so she allowed it to run. Reveling in the feeling of the wind whipping through her tresses. Oh how she loved these games. Her gait was slowed, she could over take the crippled being easy. But she chose to allow it a false sense of hope. Blood that was filled with hope always seemed to taste sweeter. But soon the pull of the meat was too strong and the mare chose give in. With one quick jump she was on top of the creature, her dagger like hooves cutting deep into its body. Soon the deer breathed its last breath and the mare was able to sink her teeth into its form. The meat filled her once empty stomache. The blood that flowed easily from its veins quenched the thirst in her throat, though the yearning for blood would never leave her mind. Her once white lips were now stained a beautiful crimson, her hooves colored the same. Soon the animal was just a heap of skin and bone. Coraline had finished her feast. Her mind was clearer now, not bogged down with the insistent calling for blood. But the chase was not enough for her. The mare had grown rather bored over the past few days. There had not been enough toys in her life, not enough equines to play her little games with. And so the mare decided that she would find one. Her elegant head lifted to the skies, her nostrils widening with each intake of air. Soon the scent of another equine in close proximity reached the mare and a deep smirk crossed her lips. Game on. Long limbs carry the mare towards the scent. Toys, they come in all shapes and sizes. But they all end the same. Broken.[/i Coraline snorted at these words from the voices. They were correct. The games that Coraline played normally ended in the participants being too broken in the end to go on. Or dead. The mare gave a slight chuckle to this. Once again the voices were correct. If she liked her toys enough she would allow them the pleasure of her teeth gracing their skin. Their meat was always the sweetest.
As Coraline reached a rather open area of the rainforest her crystal eyes fell upon the form of the scent she had received. He was rather small and Coraline could feel her heart rise. It was a foal, or at least a young creature. Though it was hard to tell how small he truly was due to the wings that hung at his side. But she did not care. Foals. The one true thing that Coraline could say she loved. Their innocence drew the beastly mare in. She understood their lost feelings, she had felt them as she was spit from the portal into this strange land. The mare controlled herself from calling out to the child right as she saw him. She would not allow herself to lose who she was, a toying monster. She would not just change because she came face to face with a child. They would have to earn her endearment. She moved closer to the being, her head held high, her spiraling horn pointing to the sun. As she grew closer to the creature she allowed a smirk to grace her face. "You should be careful little one. Out here all alone... You might run into a monster." A chuckle followed her words. She knew how beastly she must appear. Crimson blood staining her lips and her hooves. She allowed her lips to draw back into a wider smirk, showing the sharpened teeth that she had grown through her meat eating days. This should be fun. ~Gorgeous Nightmare~ [/blockquote]

KARAI Karai refrained from shuddering at the sight of the blood-stained mare that walked into his clearing. He had learned from his life in the bush that show show fear was to show weakness, and to show weakness was to be destroyed. He instinctively knew that the "monster" she meant must be herself. He swallowed quickly and straightened himself to his full height, only a hand or so shorter than the mare. He pulled his wings in a bit closer, not completely closed, just enough to keep them from getting caught in any twigs... or teeth.
He gazed at her magnificent horn and wondered if this mare had been changed by the Rift as well, or if horses here were born that way. He had never seen a horse with a horn before... much less wings, but here he was, the impossible resting right on his shoulders, challenging his understanding of possibilities.
He decided to go with a friendly attitude, deciding that this mare was not one to cross. "My name is Karai," he said, in the most pleasant tone he could muster. His voice was deep and rough for one so young, and he spoke with a thick accent ((southeastern Australian)). "I am a newcomer here, and mean you no harm. I shall leave if I am unwelcome here." He flicked his tail in a reassuring manner, keeping his posture ready for action, yet conveying that he meant what he said -- he meant no harm.
As he awaited her reply, Karai admired the mare's coloring and markings. If you ignored the blood dripping from her jaw and hooves, she was quite the looker. Her unusual blue eyes seemed hard, yet bright. An odd combination of light and dark dwelled within her. Inwardly, he cleared his head of her beauty and returned to more pressing concerns -- was this mare friendly, or was he to suffer the same fate as her recent kill?

Coraline
My Words
|
My thoughts. My voices.Coraline could see the boy tighten his muscles. His wings drew closer to his side. Once the boy raised to his full height he was not much smaller than Coraline was. Her ears flicked forwards towards the young thing. Laughing slightly at how he readied himself for if there was a fight. No matter how much preparation he took she would still take him down easily. No one can best us. The mare snorted in agreement to the voices. If she so wished she could tear this youngster limb from limb. Surely his young blood would taste magnificent. The innocence in a horse always seemed to flavor it nicely, adding an extra sweet taste to the glorious taste of blood. But that was not what the mare wished. She would not attack this young thing. No, she was actually hoping for a true meeting. One where she did not attack, only spoke. Though nothing could stop the mare from playing her little games. Still she would try her best to be kind, once he earned that emotion. As of now the mare just stared down at the smaller creature. Her cold eyes bore into his lightly colored coat. She admired the wings that sat upon his frame. Wondering if he had received these through the rift, or if he was born to a flying pair here in the lands of Aeon. Surely he would answer this question soon enough, so the mare kept her words to herself. Still her eyes stayed strained on the child, waiting for words to fly from his mouth. Would he be too scared? Would he run? Hopefully not. But if so the mare would just journey on and find a new play thing. He was of no great importance, and yet the mare wanted him to stay. Finally gruff lyrics passed through the equine's lips, very deep for the boy's obvious young age. A thick accent drawled through his words. He is not of this world. Lost as you were. Coraline's heart tugged at the thought of this young thing passing through that portal and ending up here all alone. But there were more pressing matters at hand. Such as the words that he had just spoken. He spoke his name, Karai. A very interesting name, it had a certain sound to it that Coraline liked, the voices in her mind rolling it about her subconscious. Then more words came from the being. He said that he was a newcomer. So she was correct. The void had ripped him from her home as it had Coraline. The mare could feel her eyes lighten towards the creature and she instantly changed them back to cold and uncaring. No need to allow the boy to know that there was a lighter side to her, not yet. Once more words flowed through the youngsters mouth. Stating that he would not cause her harm. At this statement a large bubble of sharp laughter tumbled from the mare's crimson mouth. Him hurt her? The thought was ridiculous. Her head slightly tilted back, her whole body rumbling from the laughter that shook her. Then just like that she got ahold of herself, the mare's eyes once again drifting down to meet the boy. "I can assure you that no harm could come from you to me." Somehow laughter still lifted into her words, but soon she got control of it. This little one was interesting. There was something about him that drew her in. And so she decided to let a couple of her games die. She would be nice, somewhat. "But I can also assure you that no harm will come from me to you as well." Her lyrics rang true, she would not hurt this young thing. A small smirk lifting up her lips. "They call me Coraline." A bob of her head, an equine bow. Surely this young one had not learned the aspects of manners. Just blurting out his name without so much of a lift of a foot. Or possibly Coraline had just scared his wits too much for him to think of doing that. A short chuckle ripped past the mare's mouth at the thought of this but she buried the laughter deep inside her. No need to show the equine just how crazy she truly was. As she stood there the mare saw the young boy's eyes glide over her. At this the mare tucked her head in, her body to come to her full advantage, one front hoof rising slightly. A wicked smile lifting her lips and showing her shinning sharpened teeth. She was quite the looker. Her silver coat dazzled in the sunlight, her horn spiraling beautifully to the sun. And an added touch was the beautiful crimson that she so loved dripping from her coat. She was a dangerous, insane, beauty. But a beauty all the same. ~Gorgeous Nightmare~ [/blockquote]

KARAI Karai mentally kicked himself for forgetting his mother's lessons in etiquette. Living alone in the bush, he had lapsed into a very informal, familiar manner of introduction. The words he had said to the beautiful mare was more than he normally said in introduction, however. He quickly, and slightly awkwardly, returned the bow, as though his muscles had to find the movements buried away in the deep dark recesses of their memory. He kept his eyes up, as his Brumby upbringing had taught him to never take his eyes off the stranger, though he did avert them from her mesmerizing eyes.
He looked at her curiously as she fought to keep the laughter out of her voice. She was laughing at him? He, who had fought stallions much larger and more experienced than him? He, who had narrowly escaped man too many times for him to count? Granted, the fights generally ended in him running for the hills, and no man was a match for even the smallest Brumby filly, but still... He could feel his male pride prickle. Karai fought to ignore it, instead focusing on the sound of her name... "Coraline." Such an exotic name for an exotic creature. And it had a bit of a pleasant lilt to it. Or was it her voice? He was not familiar with her accent, never having heard any but his own, echoed in the voices of other bush animals. And the guttural, vile voice of man, when they vainly tried to chase him down, which was more frequent than any wild horse would care for.
He bowed again, this time a little more gracefully. "Well met, Coraline. May I say your charming name fits your beautiful self." He hoped his extra polite manner would make up for his rudeness earlier, and continued to ignore the bloodstains... and the strangely sharpened teeth. They reminded him of the teeth of a quoll he once met. He must not judge this mare before he knew more of her true character.
He straightened himself again, looking her in the eyes as much as he dared. "Um... where am I exactly? Are you from here?" He had many more questions than those, but he knew had to pace himself.

Coraline
My Words. My thoughts. My voices.
The mare watched the young boy carefully. Finally he gained some grace and bowed to her once she had done the same. But this movement was obviously one that he had not used in some time. Strange, Coraline always found time to be elegant and formal, even to her prey. But that was not all horses and she could not hold it against him. Maybe he was not raised in a life where formalities were necessary. At this the mare snorted. Uncivilized beast. At this Coraline rolled her eyes. He was not uncivilized, just not brought up in the way that Coraline was. Maybe she could help him with this. At the thought of helping this young thing the mare chuckled wildly. She did not enjoy the company of many, but she could make an exception for this young thing, he was a foal after all. Maybe she could take him under her wing, teach him her ways. But no. He had not earned that. The mare pushed that thought far back into the recesses of her mind. Maybe he would earn the respect he would need to earn this offer, but he had not done so yet, so it was not a possibility. The mare's cold eyes once more fall on the boy, waiting for him to make his next move.
She noticed his body tense at her laughter, a look of cooled anger flitting across his face. Was he upset that she said he could not hurt her? Once again thick laughter rolled from her blood stained lips. Did he actually believe that he posed a threat to her? Foolish child. It was obvious that this boy could handle himself in a fight. His muscles spoke of living in a life that was hard, where he had to fight often. Those massive wings would allow him even more leverage in a fight. Still, he would be no match for her. Coraline was a predator, she knew her way around a kill and knew how to perform it flawlessly. The mare had taken down studs much larger than this young boy. He would be no match for her, an easy kill. But maybe, once he was taught well enough, he could be a worthy opponent. Though the mare never saw an instance where he could actually take her down Coraline knew that he could be a good fighter one day. One that would make it hard to win against, but win she still would. Another bubbling of insane laughter came from the mare, but she kept her words to herself. Waiting for the boy to speak to her. It was his turn to make conversation and she wanted to know just how well he would handle himself against her.
His words do finally float into the air. He asked her if she knew where he was, that he was new and wondering if she was from here. She had suspected that, he did not seem to fit into this world. The air of him was not from this world, but of the world that Coraline had come from before. "You are in the land called Aeon."At this the mare shook her elegant head. "No, young one I am not from this land. I am from the place where I assume you are from. Earth." A toothy smirk lifted the mare's crimson lips. Oh how she had missed speaking to one that was not the voices inside her own head. "I passed through a portal much like the one I am assuming you came through, considering the fact that you were touched much like I was." Coraline pointed her spiraling horn to the wings that sat on the back of the young stud. If he was not from this land that meant that he had received those appendages in the rift, much like Coraline acquired her horn. Then her words stop, allowing the sharp silence to envelope them. Her cold stare never leaving the boy.

KARAI Though he didn't allow it to show on his face, Karai was slightly disappointed that the mare ignored his compliment. He decided not to let it get to him and instead listened to her explanation of the different lands. He examined her horn when she used it to point at his new wings. It was hard to believe that it had not been a part of her before this world, but then, neither had his wings, and he already felt as though he had been born with them. He wondered what to say next. Conversation was not something he had been good at, living as a loner in the bush. He shifted nervously under the mare's gaze, feeling as though he were being scrutinized. His feathers rustled, and suddenly, he longed to be in the air again, soaring high above this new land, watching the mare gallop below him. His hooves gently stamped the earth a bit, as he shook the urge to take off. He had only done so once before, and then there were no trees around him, and he was lucky he hadn't fallen flat on his face.

Coraline
My Words. My voices.
Coraline could sense that the boy was somewhat uneasy. But why shouldn't he be? He was in the face of a huntress, wouldn't anyone be nervous about that? Well they should be. The mare could snap this small beast in two with just a flick of her hooves. That thought caused the mare to laugh slightly. It would be quite fun to show this new comer just how dangerous this world could be. He would learn it sooner or later. But no, if she tore him to shreds then he would not want to play anymore. And Coraline did so dearly love to play. The mare tosses her head, trying to dislodge the thoughts of tearing this young boy to shreds from her mind. That would ruin the fun, end the game. And she was not finished playing.
She had spoken to him and yet no words seemed as if they would flow from his mouth. At this the mare pinned her ears back sharply, their blue form becoming lost in her thick mane. How dare he be so rude as to ignore her statements?! He would need to learn many things if he was to make it in this land. "You would do well to answer someone who has spoken to you." The mare's words are growled out, passing through teeth that were now barred. Whoever this colt thought he was he still needed to show respect to her. She deserved that. "Be careful not to anger ones who could so easily break you." Another snarl escaped Coraline's mouth as she spoke, teeth gnashing together, her head tossing about her neck wildly.
Ice eyes gently roll at the nervous beast. He looked as if he wanted to leave. Leave? But the game has just begun. But if he wanted to leave maybe the mare would give him the choice. If he turned his back for just a second the mare could easily come after him, start a whole new game. With a sharp flick of her thick tail the mare gave a heated snort. Then with one quick movement the mare turned from the boy. Long limbs gently carry the mare forward, elegant steps swaying as she moved. The beast began to hum some uninteligable tune as she slowly moved away from the boy, her ice eyes gently closing. It was his turn now. He could choose which game she would play. Either would be just fine with her.

KARAI Karai started at the mare's words, and was shocked when she turned from him and started to walk away. He realized then that he had been rude, and again kicked himself for his lack of manners. He reared up slightly in his excitement to catch up as he started after her.
"Coraline, wait!" he caught up to her and walked alongside her. "Will you please tell me more of this land? I still don't really understand how I got these wings. I've only flown once, and that was when I woke up here. I was so thrilled, I didn't stop to think where I was, why I had had wings, or anything. Are there more like us? Are all the horses here from our world or are there some that were born here?"
He paused in his sudden rush of words. He knew that now, while he wasn't necessarily being rude, he was overdoing it. He lowered his head slightly and looked away, embarrassed. "I'm sorry... I'm not used to talking to others. I grew up mostly on my own after Man took my parents away. Mum taught me some, but it's been a while..." he trailed off and hoped she'd understand.

Coraline
My Words. My voices. Ears slightly flicked backwards as the young colt spoke out to her, asking her to wait up. The mare gently pursed her lips, ice eyes rolling towards the form of the boy racing up beside her. So, he did not wish her to leave? Pitty... The mare continued her steady trek forward, not stopping her movements just because he asked her to. Coraline wasn't one for listen to anything that others asked her to do. Ears quickly turn away from the boy, flicking forward. Eyes strained on the scenery before her, completely ignoring the boy. A test? Maybe. She did not want him to leave. So, maybe how he responded to her ignoring him would change her thoughts about him, whether for better or worse. Or she could just be toying with him as she would any other equine. But, this young colt had caught her attention. So her games would be slightly put to rest. Not that he was special. But there was something about the young boy. He made her stop and think about being kind, which few ever did.
As the mare continued her trek the boy once more began to speak. The boy asked Coraline to tell him more about the land. He said that he still did not completely understand how he got those large wings that hung on his shoulders. He asked if there were more like them. Asking if every horse here was born on Earth or if there were some born on Aeon. Coraline pondered all of the questions that seemed to be pouring from the boy's mouth like a water fall. He did ask some good questions, and so the mare decided to turn her attention back to him. Body stops its movements, neck arching in a way that she could lay her crystal eyes on the boy's form. Blue ears prick forward, a slight laughter coming from her lips at all of the questions. He sure is talkative. Eyes gently roll at the lyrics in her mind. "It is the rift that has bestowed upon us these beautiful appendages. There are many like us, though the additions that the rift allows are very different from each other. Just as it chooses to give these gifts the rift also allows some to go through untouched, so there are few who walk Aeon just as they had on Earth." The mare took a deep breath, preparing to continue on with her words. How the boy managed to speak so much without growing tired was beyond her. "There are native equines from this land. They are somewhat different than the equines from Earth, though."
Once more words began to tumble from the colt, as if it was a nozzle that needed to be shut off. Even though Coraline desperately wanted to tell the boy to be quite she kept her ears tipped forward, listening to every word that came from the boy, not allowing her emotions to show on her face. He asked for forgiveness, that he was not used to speaking. He said that his mom had taught him some, but very few. So, he was a lost soul. Here without his mother. Ears flip around wildly, trying to decide how on earth the mare should reply. "I, as well, am not used to conversation." Though that was for a far different reason than the boy. She chose not to speak, only because she would much rather hunt. "And I too know how it feels to be transported into this world without family, alone."

KARAI Karai looked up at the mare when she confided about her lack of family. He was mildly surprised she had told him, but decided not to dwell on it. He had noticed too, that she had to take a breath between her answers. He would have to be careful not ask so much in one go again.
He continued walking with her, but could feel the gentle breeze on his feathers and again longed to be airborn. He didn't want to appear rude however, so instead of just taking off, he decided on another approach.
"Do you know any of them? I'd like to meet more like us, and the natives. I'd like to see more of this land too. If it's ok..." he trailed off. This courtesy thing was hard for a bush brumbie like himself!

Coraline
My Words. My voices. Brows twist as the young colt acted as if she was running his life. Asking if it was ok for him to go out and see the world. Elegant head gently tips back at the boy's words. He did not need to ask her permission, but she did quite like that he thought he should. Crystal eyes turn downwards upon the boy once more. He just keeps talking. The mare chuckles inwardly at the voices. The boy surely could put on a show of words, though whether or not those words had any real substance to them was a whole other story. But that was something that could be worked on. This boy had something that few other equines Coraline had stumbled upon seemed to have, he had potential. Sure, he was rough around the edges. He still held the annoying need to speak too much as most children did, he had not completely learned all of his manners, and it was obvious that he was longing for something much different than this conversation that he kept going. But all of those things could be helped, they could be molded. He could make quite the fine horse, one day, with some help. The mare nods silently. And who better to help than herself? He could be her little project, she did need something to fill up her time. Between playing her games and hunting there was really nothing else to do in this land. Soon she would have her own land and fill her time with ruling, but that day had not come. So, she would have to fill her time with trivial things, like helping along the young stallion.
"The horses of Aeon are free to travel wherever they wish in thses lands. Though keep in mind that some of the lands are ruled by those who do not take kindly to trespassers." The mare tipped her head, thinking of one leader in particular that she would not like to meet again. Not now, but maybe when she was stronger, so that she could show the mare just how big of a mistake she made by running her off. She would rue the day. A tight smirk lifted the mare's lips at this thought, though she kept all other ezpressions free from her face. No need to let the boy in any more than she already had, he had not yet earned that. "I have met many of the equines of this land, though I must say I have never met one of the natives. Though I hear they are quite grand creatures. As for the other equines who live here I have found that most are quite trivial, not really worth ones time. Some are even worthless. But, I suppose to a young and learning colt it would be good to get out in the world and meet new faces. Learn what the horses of Aeon are like." Ears flick to the side that the boy was treading on, ice eyes turning to look at him. "But be careful, little one. For there are monsters who take the shape of equines in this world. They could fool you easily, take you into their trap and just like that you will be gone. Watch youself, pet." A laughter bubbled up from the mare as she gave a warning against a creature that so resembled herself. ~Gorgeous Nightmare~

Sirena Such odd creatures traversed the dream land, but she was still convince this was real.At least her senses were tricking her into thinking this was real, how had she escaped fire pit she was falling into. Now she must really be dreaming, a horse with wings appeared before her,but her parched throat ached badly.Ignoring this strange apparition she would quietly go to a stretch of the water and have drink, eyes closed trying to erase the strange things. Then she opened them again,to see that the magical pony was till there, this was really giving her a headache.

Karai Karai blinked, unsure if she was warning him about herself, or about another. Then he realized she thought he was asking for her permission to leave. "I... I meant... Could you show me around some places? I'd like to fly, but I also would like your company."
Karai forced himself to be quiet for once, and took in the scene. Who knew an insignificant little outcast Brumbie like himself would be standing in such a lush place, talking to a mare with a horn. It was as though he were dreaming. But in dreams, you can fly without wings. How many times had he experienced that for himself? How often he had awoke in the middle of a gum forest, wishing he was still soaring with the eagles from his dreams? And now here he was, wings as beautiful as any eagles', strong enough to lift him high into the sky and take him anywhere he wanted. But the mare had no wings. She was his only "friend"... well, more of an acquaintance... in this world. Even though he still wasn't sure about her, at least he was still alive, so that had to be something... right?
He heard movement behind them, and turned his head to look over his shoulder at the stream they had just left. They hadn't walked far, but already there was another horse... equine, as Coraline said... getting a drink. The new filly looked bedraggled, as though she had just escaped with her life from something horrible. He could smell a bit of smoke in the air near her, but how could that be? There was no fire here... Then he came to the realization that she must have just come through the Rift too. Though her eyes were closed, it looked as though she had been crying. He turned his head ever so slightly back to Coraline to see if she had seen the filly too. In this way, he could watch both mares at the same time. He saw the new filly open her eyes, a look of pain in her... turquoise eyes?? He blinked and looked again. She looked like a normal Earth horse, with the exception of her shocking eyes. He concluded that they must be the Rift's gift to her, since he had never seen such colored eyes. His feathers ruffled involuntarily with a bit of pride that the Rift had given him such a useful gift instead of just coloring his eyes. Still, they were pretty to look at.
