KARAI
Nicknames: None.
Gender: Stallion
Age: 1 year
Birth Season: spring
Birth Place: secluded gum forest in Australia
Breed: Brumby
Height: 15 hands
Appearance: Karai is a very pale palomino, known as a "creamy" or "silver" in Australia.
like this
He has no markings, just pure creamy coloration. His eyes are a light brown, and hint at wisdom beyond his youth. He has a very muscular build and several scars on his withers and neck that allude to a hard life prior to his arrival in Aeon. His hindquarters are particularly strong, with rippling muscles that allow him to clear hedges and ravines that most horses would otherwise balk at. He was Touched when he came through the Rift, and as a result, gained beautiful silvery wings.
Magic Class: Resurrection
Strengths:
• Physically strong, very powerful jumper, which comes in handy with his new wings.
• Curious & playful. These sort of go hand in hand with this yearling. His past has taught him the hardships of life, and he longs for the carefree life he rarely got to experience as a foal. This manifests in extreme curiosity and a playfulness that can sometimes get him into trouble. On the other hand, it has also lead to several adventures and a few strong friendships… all of which were lost when his most recent curious exploring got him sucked into the Rift.
• Wisdom of the bush. In order to remain a free Brumby, Karai had to learn the ways of the bush. How the wind shifts sound, how the wombat hides in his holes, how dingo tracks her prey, and why kookaburra laughs so loud. Most importantly, he learned how to sense man and his clumsy stock horse when mustering or running times came.
Weaknesses:
• Mistrusts everyone, especially humans and horses wearing tack and other man-made looking objects. Even an escaped horse wearing a rope around its neck makes him edgy, so we'll see what happens when he meets a horse wearing an Etherstone Necklace…
• Too curious at times. While it is true his curiosity has lead him to many great discoveries (fresh water, safe grazing, etc.), it has also lead him into terrible danger (helicopter shootings, traps, demon-like stallions, etc.)
Personality: He is curious and full of life, though he can be wary of strangers. To those who know him, however, Karai is playful and friendly, a bundle of energy. Due to his history, he does not trust everyone so easily, and that affects his actions towards others at times. However, he is happy for a fresh start and ready to put his past behind him and live his new life in Aeon to the fullest. Glad to be away from all of his old struggles, he is making progress with meeting others and gaining friends, despite his feelings towards those he does not yet know.
Dam: Name unknown. Was caught in a muster while luring the men away from her son. Fate unknown, though it is probable she was made a stock horse.
Sire: Name unknown. Was killed by accident in a running as he fled in terror from the men.
Past Ranks: None.
Past Herds: The only herd he knew was his mother's band in somewhere in the Snowy Mountains region.
History: A few months prior to Karai's birth in early spring, his father had been caught up a running, when the stockmen drive the Brumbies from one area to another to preserve the vegetation, both natural and crop. The stallion went into a frenzy, and fell to his death as he ran off a cliff in his desperation to get away. Having escaped the running, only to find herself alone, his mother went in search of her childhood herd. She found them, and they protected her in the last months of her pregnancy. However, when she left them to give birth in a secret place, they too were driven away by stockmen.
She and her new foal stayed in hiding till he was strong enough to travel to find another herd. They met many other loners along the way, some with foals near Karai's age, and he made many friends on their journey. His curiosity got the best of him many times and his mother had to keep a close eye on him after he nearly got caught in a trap.
By the time they found a herd, he had learned much of bush life, and most of the time could resist his curiosity. They approached the herd cautiously, and while most of the mares and foals accepted them, the stallion of the herd hated Karai and tried to drive him away from the herd but keep the mother. She fled in the night and found Karai quickly, and the two of them went on walkabout, occasionally joining the edges of herds, where the stallions wouldn't see them and drive away the creamy foal.
It was while they were grazing with one of these herds that the stockmen decided it was time for a muster. The mare urged her young colt along as they ran from the men, and his long legs and terror carried him far away from the mustering. The stock horses don't know the ways of the bush, and he used this advantage, weaving in and out of areas the older, fatter, slower horses couldn't navigate. The stockmen gave up, deciding that this creamy colt must be a descendant of Thowra, the famous silver Brumby of by-gone days.
When Karai finally returned to the grazing grounds, his mother was nowhere to be found. He searched for her, and though he found many other mares, fillies, and colts that had escaped, none knew what had happened to her.
Despairing, he tracked the muster, and found the end of it at a station where many Brumbies could be seen pawing anxiously in the corral. He could not pick out his mother, and fled when a dog alerted the stockmen of his presence.
Heartbroken, he wandered aimlessly for some time. He met other herds and loners, and even a few pretty fillies. Their playfulness helped him forget the sorrow of losing his mother, and soon he was back on walkabout, exploring as much of his corner of the world as he could.
One night, as he slept nuzzled close to a filly he particularly fancied, he awoke with a start. He had heard something stir in the bush. Quietly, so as not to disturb the filly, Karai got up and slowly crept to the source of the disturbance. His head low, he peered into the pre-dawn mist ahead. He could just make out the outline of… what? He didn't know. He couldn't hear anything anymore, but something was definitely there. A swirl of… blackness? That couldn't be right… He'd never seen anything like it before. His curious side kicked in, and ignoring the warnings in his head (which always came in the sound of his mother's voice), he walked forward. The thing kept getting larger the closer he got, and suddenly he felt himself being pulled… inside?? Panicking, Karai tried to stop moving, but his body forced his hooves onward. In an instant, he was yanked inside the Rift, and his ears were assaulted by an explosion of sound. At times, he thought he could hear the terrified whinnies of other horses from other times and places. Unable to take in anymore the brightly swirling colors, Karai closed his eyes as a searing pain attacked his spine and withers.
When he woke up, he was in a land he had never seen… He looked around cautiously before slowly standing up and shaking the dust off. Startled, he pranced in place as he looked around and saw… wings?? Tentatively, he flexed his muscles and found new ones that connected to the magnificent silvery wings. Gleefully, he flexed harder and soared into the sky, pumping his legs and wings as he gained altitude. Time for a new adventure! Wherever this is…PLAYER
