Ankou
Falling Inside The Black,
My words. My thoughts.
|
Thick hooves gently trod over the abundant grass of the prairie. The stallion's movements were slow and careful; he did not want to end up tripping and getting himself hurt. That would not be a good first impression on the leader of this land. And Ankou wanted to make the perfect first impression, though he could never do that with his looks. Ankou wished deeply that he had found a place that he could call home. The stallion had heard many stories of how accepting this clan was. Their whole life was built upon allowing the strange into their herd. Supposedly it was against the rules of the leader to act out against someone who was different. This gave Ankou hope. Maybe he would be able to be accepted here. Maybe he had found a home. But would this acceptance flow out to the likes of The Reaper? Surely none of the members had seen the likes of the stallion. He was the thing of nightmares. His bare skull and shinning bright green eyes haunted the minds of anyone who saw him. He was a grotesque monster. Would the clan accept this? Ankou could not help but hope. He wished desperately for a home. His large head was held high, knowing that because he was in a prairie he would not have to worry about his large antlers becoming entangled. A strange feeling of peace fell onto the beast as a soft breeze picked up his thick banners. Ebony ears flicked forward, listening for the sounds of life. Ankou had heard that there was a new leader of the land. The past chief had been chosen to lead some kind of chariot driven by the Gods. Ankou was not really one for loving the Gods. They were the ones who cursed him with these hideous looks. The ones who caused him to have to live in solitude for most of his life. He did not love the Gods. But he did realize how much of an honor it was to be chosen by them. The fact that it was the leader of this clan, meaning that the members must be something special, gave the stallion enough hope to make this trek out into the clan. Empty eyes search the horizon though he could not see. No scent of any equine came to his nose; no sound of hooves came to his ears. A deep huff escaped the stallion. Of course he would come on the day that no one was out and about. But that would not deter him. Ankou had made up his mind; he would not back down from this. He needed to give this a try. If it did not work he could go back to living alone, couldn't he? Bone head shakes about, trying to get all of his thoughts straight. Soon a smell did catch the stallion's attention. There was water close. As Ankou thought of this he realized how thirsty he was. It had been a long trek out here, though hopefully the journey would be worth it. But over those many miles the equine had grown quite thirsty. Ankou's massive hooves slowly turned to the smell of water. Steps were slow and steady, not wanting to fall off a cliff into a pool of water or something of the sort. Slowly the land beneath his hooves became slightly muddy, showing that he was getting close to his destination. Finally the beast's hooves settle into cool water. His bone teeth slowly lower down to the sweet liquid, his throat taking in all that he needed. When the creature was finally satisfied he allowed his large wings to expand from his body so that he could become more comfortable. The stallion took a deep breath in, preparing himself. There was still no one here, so he would have to bring someone to him. This was against the beast's normal nature. He would usually try to avoid everyone. But not today. Today that all changed, he would have a home. The stallion's bone face tilts up, a deep and powerful call passing through his teeth. It was not menacing, he made sure that the listener would be able to know that he meant no harm. He only wanted someone to come. Hopefully it would be the leader, so that it would be easier for him to join. But anyone would be welcome. Once that was done the beast lowered his head and set about to listen. Slipping Through The Cracks. [/blockquote]

"speech!" thoughts!
It had been weeks since I had established my hierarchy over Thalmic once again. Oh, it was so sweet to feel that same old soft breeze whistle through my ears, to have it tou with my mane and tail like an old friend. The grass was just as emerald as always, though growing in height due to the Stormscome rains, but turning a mucky brown due to the frost that settles on them at night. My large head turned this way and that, inspecting the premises for any signs of life. I was thankful that the mares that were taking refuge in my land had decided to stay, especially the little mare that was the lover of Thanatos. I had seen her out and about with her son, Theoden. Yes, I knew his name. I made it my week's challenge to learn about all I could that lived here under my command. They were, in fact, my family now, and I wanted them to feel like such. It was a thrill to be back in power. But it made me remember back to the old days, when I was nothing but a loner, out in the wild of Aeon alone. It was a normal day, but I had noticed something rather... off about it. So, as the little instigator I was, I went off to see what was wrong. I remember fighting a baby wyvern, and then a savior coming to my side, fighting fiercely and with bravery. I was in awe at this stallion, Thorin, and was delighted when he took me to his home. But, sadly, he did not survive the week, and I still remember his voice, that last shaky, rattling breath: "Take care of them, Aristotle..." And take care of them I must.
It was a clear day, for Stormscome. The wind was blowing in light gusts, whipping my mane across my neck like a rope. I peered out across the sea of dying grass, a sigh escaping my lips. It was a content sigh, of course, but almost tinged with boredom. I had hoped to be out and about by now, gather members and creating alliances with the other clans, however I had felt the need to stay within Thalmic's walls today. And just my luck, a neigh rang about in the wide-open space, a beckoning, non-threatening. I realized I had held my breath since hearing this call's first notes, and let it out hastily before picking up a quick trot. It only took me moments to find the stranger, thanks to being downwind of him. He was drinking his fill at the tiny pool of water when I arrived. He wasn't quite what I had expected, but I was in no shape to discriminate.
He was rather bold looking, with his fractured skull face and vine-entangled antlers. Not hideous in my eyes, but of course, I always thought the best of everyone. I could only blame it on one thing: the Rift. It could make you or break you, and it seemed this poor guy had drawn the short end of the stick when the colors had spit him out in Aeon. I felt bad for him, though not sorry. He seemed to be a big boy, one that could handle himself. I looked at his glowing green sockets and cleared my throat quietly, not wanting to spook him.
"Greetings, guest. Welcome to Thalmic, open for any and all. Can I help you with anything?"

Ankou
Falling Inside The Black,
My words. My thoughts.

Ankou could hear the sound of hooves coming towards him. Instinctively the equine tensed his muscles. If this beast meant him harm he would be ready. His first choice would be to run, but because of his loss of sight the creature could not do that, he would only end up getting himself in even more trouble. So the creature prepared himself for a fight. Ankou was a rather large beast and he knew that his brute strength could surely help him in a fight. But he could not truly handle himself in a fight. He would only have to hope that maybe this thing coming for him did not mean him harm. It could quite possibly be someone from the clan answering Ankou's call. That could be who this was. But Ankou would not allow himself let his guard down. No, he would not allow himself to be attacked as he had been so many times. He was done with allowing himself to be beaten down. Ears swivel around wildly, trying to decide where this unknown equine was. The beast did not seem as if it meant him harm. It was not coming at an angry speed, or lash out as it stopped close to him. It coughed beside him, showing that he was there. Ankou's nerves then slowly began to calm. The equine did not mean him harm, he was only answering his call. Good. Maybe now he could start trying to join the herd. But he could not do that without knowing who this beast was. Ankou's blindness would not allow him to see the looks of the equine who was here. So, he had no way of knowing if this was the leader or just some member without being told. This meant that he would have to speak. Ankou took a deep breath in, a gulp of spit coming down his throat. The equine spoke before Ankou had the chance to. He spoke in a leader like tone, was Ankou lucky enough to have stumbled upon the leader first off? The equine stated a greetings, saying that he was in Thalmic, a place that was open to anyone. Ankou took a happy breath in and out. So he had been correct. This land was accepting to anyone. This equine had seen Ankou's looks, seen how grotesque he was and still chose to tell him that the land was open to anyone. This made Ankou happier than the other equine could ever imagine. His lips would be tugged up in a happy smile, if he had lips. But Ankou had to settle with a happy bob of his head, a content sigh escaping his bone teeth. The stallion then asked if he could help with anything. With this the beast nodded his head. "Yes, there is." Ankou tipped his head in the direction where the voice was coming from, though there was no way for him to know if he was truly looking at the equine. "I have heard many stories of how accepting this clan is. And as I'm sure you can see, I am very strange to most." The equine gave a soft laughter, trying to hide how much these words hurt him. He had tried to fit in. But who would befriend The Reaper? Ankou had stumbled upon some who accepted him. Telling him that there were a few equines that would accept him. These equines gave him hope. They were the sole reason that the beast had made it here, hoping for a life where he was happy. "And so I have journeyed here in hopes of finding a place where I would be allowed to join the herd. Hopeful to find a place that I could find home. Ankou's lyrics were dipped in truth. He prayed silently that the Gods would finally smile down upon him and allow him to find what he was always looking for. Slipping Through The Cracks. "speech!" thoughts!
As I trotted up to the stallion, I could see, and almost feel, his muscles tense, as if he was waiting for an attack. I couldn't help but smile, not in mockery, not in pity, but in sadness for the poor stallion. Though I did daresay, his eyes were intimidating and not hideous either, even if they could not be used for sight. My own sapphire orbs gazed over his facade as I cleared my throat, and he slowly seemed to deflate, muscles relaxing as he realized I was not going to harm him. A happy expel of breath from him when I spoke, as if he was relieved. But by what? Did the other clans cast him out? If so, why? It was the place of a Chief to be accepting to all, and those who didn't, well, needed to be taught a thing or two about leadership. My ears pinned the slightest bit, but when he began to speak they flew forward to catch every word.
"Yes, there is."
I nodded, even though he could not see it, it felt only respectful to pay him the same chivalrous manners that I would one with sight. I watched as he turned his head in my general direction, though he was looking a little off. To make up for this, I shifted my heavy weight until he was directly in front of me, face to mine.
"I have heard many stories of how accepting this clan is. And as I'm sure you can see, I am very strange to most."
I bobbed my head once again, accepting the fact that he was not the most handsome stallion I had seen, and also giving him hope that Thalmic was, in fact, the home for all who felt like they did not belong elsewhere, even if many of the members were here merely by choice, though they would obviously be accepted wherever they had decided to go. I shook my head slightly, exorcising the thought from my head, and gave the grotesque stag before me my full attention.
"And so I have journeyed here in hopes of finding a place where I would be allowed to join the herd. Hopeful to find a place that I could find home."
A grand smile graced my navy blue lips at his words. I didn't care how true they were, or if he was merely kissing up to me, they were still filled with kindness and respect. I looked past him, checking for any signs of intruders or unexpected guests, even for a member or two, but finding none I returned my gaze to his glowing jade optics. He knew this stallion was an outcast, wanting a place to fit in and call home. And Aristotle understood that well, though he had hardly experienced it before, and felt a strange attachment to the grim looking leo. The star-speckled navy Chief had decided what he was going to do. But first, he would give out his official title, just in the off chance the stag didn't know whom he was conversing with.
"As I said before my friend, all are welcome here. But before we speak of this any further, allow me to introduce myself. I am Aristotle, Chief of Thalmic, your gracious friend."
A bow was given, though the Chief knew he wouldn't have a clue. The boldly marked stallion's words were honest and friendly, deep voice booming about over the Prairie.

Ankou
Falling Inside The Black,
My words. My thoughts.
|
A soft breeze began to blow through the openness of the prairie. Ankou allowed his skull face to lift towards the wind, a whistling sound resounding through his open face. The feathers of his wings rustling gently in the wind. Long banners flowing about his form wildly. The strange match up of twigs and vines that hung onto the beast's antlers swayed with the wind and the creature's movements. Ebony ears tilt forward, listening for when this equine would speak to him. He hoped that somehow he would learn who he was speaking to. His tone seemed to be of one who would lead. It sounded regal almost. But of course, Ankou could be wrong about that and he could be pouring his heart out here in front of just some member. Surely then he would be the laughing stalk of the whole herd. The chief would never allow such a failure to join. So, the creature wished deeply that this was the chief, hoped with all his might. Once the beast was satisfied with the wind he allowed his head to once more be lowered, glowing eyes settling where they had been once before. As he settled back the equine heard words begin to pour from the other beast close to him. Ears flick forward eager to hear whatever it was that this equine had to say. The equine stated that as he said before everyone was welcome. Something that caught Ankou's attention was the use of the word friend. It had been ages since that word had been used towards him from any stallion. Ears swivel around at the words. So, this land was as accepting as he had heard. It was not just some facade. They accepted even the most grotesque and hideous beasts, they even accepted The Reaper. Called him their friend. Despite himself Ankou allowed a happy laughter to rumble from his lips, a large front hoof pounding into the soft ground happily. This journey had not been for nothing. Maybe, just maybe he had found a home. This thought colored all of his body, showing just how excited about the prospect he was. But before he could become too excited he heard more words come from the stallion, which caused Ankou to settle down and tip his ears forward once more, so that he would be able to catch every syllable that feel from the stallion's mouth. The stallion gave Ankou his name, Aristotle, the leader of the clan. So, by some miracle Ankou had stumbled upon the chief first. Perhaps the Gods were beginning to smile upon him, maybe his life was going to lighten up. After the chief introduced himself Ankou could hear him move, a sound that Ankou knew meant he was giving a bow. The chief bow to him? That was very strange, but the stallion was thankful for the respect. This day just kept getting better and better. "Hello, Chief Aristotle. It is a true pleasure to be in your presence." All of his words were spoken with the utmost sincerity, a happy bob of his head accompanying his words. "My name, sir, is Ankou." A low, and long, bow was created from the creatures body. Showing his respect. He then lifted himself back up, his shinning eyes falling close to the stallion. Ears pricked forward listening for whatever words might fall from the chief's lips. Slipping Through The Cracks. [/blockquote]
