something wicked this way comes[/sup]
FAUNA
Herein lies the the local animal life found around all parts of Aeon. With these explanations, we hope to make your life here on Aeon a safe one. That is, if you're not looking for danger. Keep in mind that there are also other, normal, tropical animals of Aeon that hold the Immunity, and have remained unchanged - so if you don't necessarily feel like looking for the interesting fauna, you can always settle with the norm.
- Congas
Large, primarily white, apes, these mutated monkeys don't stray too far from their original forms. Though three times as big, they resemble gorillas closely, besides three small, dull, horns crowing their head in a vertical line down their skull. They are, primarily, civil and calm. It takes some doing to get these creatures riled up. Their children, however, are easily entertained, and smart mothers don't interfere if you can keep her baby from whining at her hip for some time. They seem to have a silent pact with the equines of Aeon, for on various occasions they've been seen fighting off predators for smaller game - horses especially. Therefore, Congas are enemies with dragons and wyverns - so watch out! You wouldn't want to get in the middle of the battle.
- Fenris Wolves
These dangerous creatures, surprisingly, do not hunt in packs. Incredibly territorial, Woolfs stick to a single mate for the duration of their life span, and keep to their designated homes, hunting any prey available. About the average size of a horse, these wolves are anatomically much like regular a regular wolf, even in coloration. Males, however, display longer hackles along their backs. What sets them apart from the regular wolves are their increased cunning, and elongated, thick fangs. Careful! One of these could easily take down any horse.
- Lava Dragons
The Volcano is where these creatures reside in a large rookery of hungry beasts. One of the largest predators on Aeon, the Lava Dragons are on the top of the food chain in most situations. These creatures can withstand increasingly high amounts of heat, so much that they can dive into the lava of the volcano and come out unharmed. This is the key way that they protect themselves - by letting lava dry on their bodies to create a thick rocky armor. These black dragons stand on four legs, the fronts longer, slimmer, and taller than the back. They also have long necks that allow them to strike like a snake. Many believe they are ancestors of komodo dragons due to the fact that a drip of their saliva can burn through the toughest of scales. Extremely aggressive, and extremely strong, Lava Dragons make the Volcano a dangerous place.
- Leviathan
Natural enemies of the Wyverns, Leviathans are the "water dragon" of Aeon. Long and snake-like, with legs that can be used to slide across sands quickly and shoot themselves through waters at startling speeds, Leviathans make beaches dangerous. Their blue coloration acts as a camouflage, making them nearly impossible to notice under the water. Yet, their orange eyes, once close enough, are the only clue you can see before they strike. Whenever a wyvern has the guts - and they do - to travel onto a beach for hunting, frequently Leviathans will strike from the depths, and the two will be locked in battle until the other is dead.
- Preydrones
One of the smallest cold-blooded predators on the island, these small wyvern-derived creatures appear closely related to their fellow velociraptor, who perchance was an adaptation of these creatures after several hundred years of evolution. Feathers crown their heads and are connected to small tendon-like muscles that pull them forward to create fans along their forehead and neck. This is believed to be used during mating season; the more colorful the feather display, the better. Females have smaller feathers, and also run slightly smaller in stature than males. Roughly five feet to their shoulders, preydrones hunt in packs and take down anything they believe their group can muster. Their scales typically run a dull green, with a beige or cream underside. Alpha males may be slightly darker, and twice in size. Females' coloration may be even duller than others. Careful you're not bit, because preydrones have a hallucinogenic venom that doesn't wear off for several hours.
- Qilin
Another creature straight from a mythology book and set into reality, Qilin are herbivore, unicorn-like creatures. They are extremely colorful, boasting up to five different shades in some cases. Their hides are protected by shimmering scales while also having an equally colorful mane, with other sprouts of hair along their cloved hooves, at the end of their whip-like tails, and in some cases along their backs and underside. They are relatively slender, ranging from anywhere from the size of an average pony to an average horse, and are very delicate. The only thing that keeps them so lively in Aeon is their tenacious intelligence. They've been known to outsmart Fenrir wolves, velociraptors, and even dragons. Don't be get too impressed; they are one of the bottom rungs in the food chain.
- Tyrannosaurus
King of the jungle, the legendary T-rex dominates most rainforest regions. Their dull green-gray-brown coloration allows them to blend in on some occasions when the forest runs humid, but otherwise these scavenging beasts tend to prey on things already dead. Why work for your food? That being said, it's not uncommon for a starving, smaller Rex to attempt a good hunt. Despite being lower on the ancestral evolutionary scale, the tyrannosauruses are equally matched to their land wyvern counterparts, as well as other Jurassic carnivores.
- Velociraptors
Straight from the time of the dinosaurs, these crafty lizards are one of the most formidable predators on the plains. In Aeon, only the larger species survived the dragons and other fauna, and therefore adapted the last several years to match the size of their fellow preydrones (believed to be an ancestor of velociraptors lost to man). Though they aren't the only small bird-like predators, they are easily distinguished. As compared to their colorful counterparts, velociraptors typically run in browns and grays, males tending to run with slight darker hues and some mild striping. In some cases, small, pathetic feathers run atop their foreheads and nape.
- Xintari
A rare, commonly elusive, creature, Xintari are actually herbivores. Larger than horses in most cases, their young run about the size of a large pony. Their scales are various shades of gray, darker down their back where a fan of webbed spines follow. They're closer to the ground in the front, with shorter stockier legs that allow them to graze on the forest floor. Even if they are herbivores, they are incredibly dangerous. Extremely protective of their young, Xintari will attack any foe to ensure their safety, even if the creature means it no harm. They have ridged, spiked crests around their heads, and use them to charge any opponents that dare to get close. If for some reason you manage to get around their charge, they have a spiked club at the end of their tails, and will swing at you blindly until they've hit something.
- Wyverns
Ruthless, mean, and agile, these dragon-like creatures stalk the plains and forests while the dragons patrol the volcanic areas. Unlike their dragon counterparts, they only have two legs, and use their large, spiked wings for balance, as well as their thick tail held upright much like a dinosaur. Their colors and look vary depending on the area in which you find them. The forest wyverns are more colorful, with fans and frills of fantastic coloration, and run a bit smaller. The plains wyverns run in green, brown, and a dark earthy red, and are the larger of the two - roughly a few feet smaller than a medium dragon. Their barbed, spiked, tails have a potent toxin in them that can bring down the strongest of animals in three days - slowly destroying the creature from the inside out. One should be careful around these creatures - they sometimes can hunt in pairs.
FLORA
With unique animals, some plants were even effected by the ethereal forces of Aeon as well. Here is a list of the newly evolved plants, their importance, and descriptions. Like with the animals of Aeon, some plants have remained unaffected - many, actually. The newly mutated plants are much harder to find than those with the immunity.
- Bloody Mary
These beautiful flowers linger in the hundreds together, hoarded on a low, strange vine-like bush that covers impending areas of the rainforest floor. With an intoxicating smell, they are nearly irresistible both in appearance and scent. They lure unknowing creatures close, and as they approach - almost by magic, the flowers turn red. That is, before it shoots you with barbs made for protection. This plant is more alive than others. The red coloration that overcomes these plants is a defense mechanism that fails itself more than anything. The strangeness of their appearance and color-turning petals draws investigators near. Bloody Marys spread by growing over the dead bodies of those they originally killed.
- Lava Flower
This flower among all others holds the most importance to the horses of Aeon. Strikingly beautiful, the flower appears like a lily, however the petals seem to glow with the look of lava, various reds, oranges, and yellows mixing together faintly on the red-orange petals. The stalks are black and sturdy, almost like they are molten rock. However, once cracked, these flowers can be used to cure any infection that the animals and plants of Aeon can cause - and even can be used for other medical purposes as a pain reliever and even stomach settler. Besides this use, the flower is also highly revered as a token of engagement. If a horse were to present to you a Lava Flower, that would mean they braved the dragons' Volcano to fetch this flower for you to propose engagement, and thus become mates.
- Tanglevine
Masters of stealth, it is nearly impossible to distinguish the difference between average rainforest vines and the dangerous Tanglevine. Nearly identical to harmless vines, Tanglevine are animate flora that will latch onto those who venture near, slowly crushing them before devouring them with an acid it secretes from small pores on its surface. Tanglevines work slowly, however, so if you're able to get help to fight off the carnivorous plant, then you'll be able to continue on with your days. The only difference between these strange mutants and regular vines is that they have small, bright green pores when you look closely - at a safe distance. Good luck managing these fierce floral predators - and don't wander alone in the forests!
