As Ankou asked the mare to walk slowly her words came back and allowed him to give a lengthy chuckle. She promised to take her movements slow, saying that she was not planning on a race. Ankou nodded his head happily as he laughed at her words. It had been a while since the boy had heard a joke told his way and he quite liked the happy feeling it put in his heart.
"Ah well, too bad. I was an award winning racer back in my day." The stallion allowed his front legs to prance in place, his head tossing playfully. Ankou chuckled lightly at his own joke, a happy height added to his head. He truly wished that he had skin upon his face to show the mare his smile. Once upon a time Ankou had been thought of as handsome. The other knights would all tease him for his good looks. His smile would catch the eye of any that he tried to swoon. But not now. Now he was this hideous creature. Surely he could not swoon any mare. But those thoughts belonged in the past, so Ankou sent his head a shake and rid his mind of the thoughts. His attention once more falling on the mare.
Once Ankou asked the mare to stay close to him he felt the air around him move, telling the boy that the mare was moving. Soon after he felt the slight touch of the mare against his chest, her tail tapping him lightly to tell him in was her hip. Once more the mare's sweet lyrics lifted to Ankou's front tipped ears. She told him that what was touching him was indeed her hip, she then said that she would stay a few paces in front of him to be sure that they would not end up getting in another mess, saying that he could reach out to touch her if need be.
"Thank you ma'am." It was all the stallion felt needed to be said at the moment, his head bobbing with appreciation to her. She was being so kind to him, allowing her time to help him from this mess of a bog, choosing to stay with him when she surely had much better things to do than stay here with him. Ankou wanted to thank her, tell her how deeply he felt for all of this kindness. But he had never been good with words and he worried that he would just trip up and make a fool of himself, so the stallion chose to stay quite instead.
Ankou heard the mare begin to take slow steps and so his large legs begin to follow the sound. His movements are slow and careful, making sure that he does not end up tripping and making a fool of himself. All the while the mare kept her own pace slow, something that made the stallion very thankful, he never lost where she was and so he always knew where he was going. As the pair continued on Ankou heard the mare's warning for him to duck. So the stallion dipped his tall head low, though his horns still managed to catch in the vines and twigs. But this catch was not very intricate and so Ankou just pulled his way out. Once he was out of the short trees the beast once more raised his head, giving a short snort accompanied with a chuckle to show that he was fine. Then their trek once more began. Ankou could not wait to be out of the trap that was this bog so that he could settle down and actually speak to the mare who had been so kind to him.
Slipping Through The Cracks.
